XIAOMI MIX FOLD 2

Well let me make it clear that like the Mix Fold 1, the current 2nd generation model is also exclusive to China. However, that doesn't mean that it won't be in the conversation. Currently the best foldable smartphone in the industry is the Samsung's Z Fold 4 and if you fly back a few years you literally didn't had any other option to consider other than Samsung in the Foldable smartphone industry. But not anymore because the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 got the tile of "Samsung Killer". So here, I want to see whether Mix Fold 2 is enough to turn the tides of the Foldable market. So, let's get started.

11. CONCLUSION (DON'T MISS)

1. OVERVIEW
You get the foldable smartphone right at the top, a premium quality back leather case, USB typeC - typeC charging cable, 67-watt fast charging brick, a welcome card, documentations. That's all.

2. DESIGN/BUILD QUALITY
This is the slimmest and lightest foldable smartphone in the world making its weight around 262 grams. The thickness of its folded form is about 11.2 mm and unfolded form is 5.4mm which is even slimmer than pencil. That's just amazing.
It gets a glass back, and aluminium alloy frames however the no clarification is made regarding the protection, and importantly the flex mechanism in absent in the hinges making the smartphone unable to fold at different angles. This is a serious flaw for a foldable smartphone.

3. PORTS AND BUTTONS
At the bottom you get typeC charging port and speaker grills (dual speakers) and Mic. hole. At the top you get IR blaster, Mic. hole, speakers and dual SIM card slot. On the right side there is Power button doubling up as a side-mounted finger-print scanner and Volume up/down button. The left side is empty. The camera bump is really huge but the thing to note is that the phone doesn't wobbles at all.

4. DISPLAY
OUTER- A 6.5-inch FHD+ Samsung's E5 OLED display is applied having 120Hz refresh rate and 1000 nits' peak brightness. This display is Dolby Vision and HDR10+ supported and comes with a protection of Gorilla Glass Victus. The screen-to-body ratio is just great. The selfie punch hole is also very small, and you get 20:9 aspect ratio in this display so you get a wide experience while using the outer display making it exactly similar to a normal smartphone. The viewing angles are great, in all a fantastic display with no compromise is offered by Xiaomi.

INNER- You get a massive 8.02 inches 2K+ OLED display with 2160 x 1914 screen resolution. It also comes with 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1300 nits of peak brightness. This display is also HDR10+ and Dolby Vision supportive. An Ultra-Thin-Glass (UTG) is applied here. The bezels here is also very thin however You tube videos does not play in full screen (the screen-to-body ratio might not be supportive).
I mean really Xiaomi just made the most perfect foldable phone giving an original smartphone(inner) and tablet(outer) experience. Really appreciating.

5. SPECIFICATION
This foldable smartphone comes with the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8+GEN1 which is a 4nm based processor. It has LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. This phone supports up to 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. So great in terms of specifications. It comes in 3 variants- 12/256GB, 12/512GB, 12/1024GB.

6. PERFORMANCE
This smartphone comes with SD 8+GEN1 processor. Talking about AnTuTu score it is about a million. However, since it is a Chinese variant, certain performance drops were seen. If we imagine for a second that this phone will arrive in India, all these flaws will be surely optimized.
Gaming on this device gives a great experience whether it be the outer or inner display. All the famous titles like APEX legends, CODM, PUBG NEW STATE can be played at the highest setting giving 60 FPS constantly. One thing I need to mention here is that the temperature of this phone is mostly on the higher side. Even during extensive tasks sometimes, you might get notifications regarding over-heating. So that's a major problem. Yes, Xiaomi did provide a vapour cooling chamber, but it seemed to be quite ineffective. Yes, this issue is evident.

7. OS/UI
This phone comes with MIUI 13 based on Android 12 out of the box. Since this is a Chinese variant it gives a different experience compared to Xiaomi smartphones coming to India. Furthermore, nothing much is known regarding security updates. However, this device does not come with Android 12L (an

Android version optimized specially for the tablets). Multi-tasking just works like butter. You can open different tabs all around the screen, screen split, floating windows. However, there are some issues regarding the third-party app, but they are negligible, and also the flex mechanism is a clear miss out. But apart from that it is full worthy to be called as a foldable smartphone.

8. CAMERA
The phone gets a triple camera setup with 50MP(f/1.8) SONY 1MX766 sensor which is just awesome which is OIS compatible. It's a LEICA branded camera. It gets the Leica Authentic and Leica Vibrant modes. The camera output from the main sensor is really good. I mean the colours feels a bit saturated, dynamic range all over gives a balanced effect.
The Portrait shots were sharp and edge detection were quite impressive. Talking about Night photos they are good enough but could have been better considering a flagship smartphone. You can take 8k videos at 24FPS and 4k videos at 30/60FPS. You can take selfie shots and videos from the primary rear camera by using the outer screen and it takes your selfie taking experience to an all-new level. You get a 13MP(f/2.4) Ultra-Wide-angle lens. This lens also gives impressive photos. The colour shifting was within limits and the dynamic range was also good.
Lastly you get a 8MP Telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom and 10x normal zoom.
Talking about the selfie sensor you get a 20MP sensor which also take good shots. The bouquet, portrait mode works very well. You can take 1080p videos at 60FPS from this sensor. However, there is no under-display camera here.

9. BATTERY
This phone is equipped with a 4,500 mAH battery which is quite big considering its thickness coupled with a 67-watt fast charger. It gives a screen time near to 24 hours on a full charge and takes around 45 minutes to get fully charged.

10. PRICE/COLOURS AVAILABLE

PRICE- Rs. 1,06,990 (China- 12/256GB- 8,999 yuan, 12/512GB- 9,999 yuan, 12/1024GB- 11,999

COLOURS AVAILABLE- Moon Shadow Black, Star Gold

11. CONCLUSION

So according to me this could be the king of foldable phone right now if and only if some of the major flaws were absent here, like the flex mechanism, intense heating issue, presence of third-party apps and absence of Android 12L. But yes, the things where it is undoubtedly in the first place is its form factor. I mean literally you get a perfect smartphone and tablet experience from this device; the weight and in-hand feel are just awesome and of course the display. The display is fabulous. So yeah, I don't think MIX FOLD 2 is going to be launched in India but in case you order it from China, mark my words you will not be disappointed. In terms of a foldable phone experience, it's ahead than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. But this fact too can't be ignored that in the price range above 1 lakh majority of the customers prefer Apple and Samsung rather than Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi but I somewhere feel you should give a try of this device and of course premium devices of other brands too. That's it for till now until next time. Thankyou.
