LONG TERM USAGE REVIEW OF SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FLIP 4

 A couple of days ago I made a detailed discussions on the Z Flip 4. So now I thought why not make a long-term usage review of over a month about this premium, compact smartphone. So, let's get started.

1. DESIGN/DIMENTIONS\

There is a complete difference in texture of the current and previous generation Flips. The current gen. feels more compact and handier whereas the previous gen. tends to slip out of the hand.

Talking about the size Samsung has make the 4th generation of its flip series even shorter and slimmer, compared to its previous generation. However, the thickness remains the same both in the folded and unfolded situation. All the dimensions for your reference are given below.

2. WEIGHT

The weight of the 4th gen. has gone up by 4 grams primarily because of the bigger battery inside compared to the 3rd gen. However, in the real-world scenario when you hold both the devices side by side, they feel exactly the same.

3. HINGE

Now you get an even slimmer and sturdier hinge in the current generation Flip. Samsung has reduced the gaps between the two folding halves. This made the crease on the display less prominent both visually and to the touch as well. This time Samsung has device made the hinge so rigid and flexible that the upper half of the current gen. Flip can sit at almost any given angle up to 170 degrees which is great for this device. However due to such rigidity opening the Flip with one swift motion will be more difficult for the users, as the resistance is much higher than the Galaxy Z Flip 3.

4. DISPLAY

OUTER- The outer display is a nice, colorful, crisp display. You can use that for getting in touch with your latest notifications. However, Samsung still didn't provide a keyboard to it so you can't respond to any of the messages. This was quite unexpected. Apart from this you too get a bunch of widgets like timer, calendar, music, weather etc. The clock widget is now provided with a few numbers of new faces. In total the outer display is not that useful in our everyday life apart from one fact that, one can use the primary lens to click selfies using the outer display. Since the viewing area of the outer display is increased by Samsung compared to the previous 3rd gen. Flip, so capturing photos is now more convenient. Additionally, now there is portrait mode, and you can show your palms as a gesture to click photos.

INNER- The size of the bezels is very thin this time compared to the previous gen. The brightness is immense so absolutely no problem for outdoor use. The crispness, contrast is great and there is no colour shifting at any point of time. This display gets supports of HDR in Netflix and YouTube.

5. CAMERA

Though the MP count has not fairly increased compared to the previous gen., but its size has surely increased. Yes, the current Z Flip 4 has got 1.8-micron pixel size compared to the 1.4-micron pixel size in Z Flip 3. The colours are extremely saturated in the post processed image.

The Reds, the Blues, the Greens are extremely shot up and elevated making it social media worthy. The images come very sharp mainly because of the larger pixel size. The HDR performance could have been more improved. Low light photography churns out great quality. By default, they are very sharp, and quality get more improved in the Night mode.

The ultrawide angle lens is good too and the FOV is wide enough. Only thing is facial tones are not very accurate mainly because of the over-saturation. I wish Samsung could have kept the colour tones natural like i the S22 series. Selfie camera is good enough. Nothing much to talk about it.

6. PERFORMANCE

This phone is equipped with all the top-of-the-line specs. It indeed gives great gaming experience and day to day tasks but let me make it very clear that the Z flip 4 is not at all made for gamer because Samsung deliberately throttle the performance mainly to control the heating and increase the battery life. So, Flip phones are mainly made for power efficiency and not performance.

7. CONNECTIVITY

This phone gets support of every single 5G band you can think of. It's a future proof phone. The call and mic. quality is absolutely top of the line.

8. BATTERY

The Z Flip 4 definitely come switch far more battery life compared to the Z flip 3. It somehow manages to give a screen time for about a day under moderate usage. Yes, it gets a 25-watt charging compared to the 15-watt charging in Z Flip 3 and with the charging brick it gets fully charged in about 1 hour 26 minutes. It also gets wireless and reverse wireless charging for the price point it comes.

9. SOFTWARE

This phone comes with One UI 4.1 with Android 12 out of the box. The fact to point out is that Samsung is the only brand in the industry that offers 4 years of Sofware updates and 5 years of security updates.

10. CONCLUSION

 See this is evident that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 comes with an extremely incremental update over the Galaxy Z Flip 3. The way Samsung has improved its battery life, camera and the charging speed, I can make this device an easy recommendation to those customers who wants to enter the world of foldables but don't want to spend a pocket tearing amount of over 1.5 lakhs for the Z Fold 4. Additionally, the compact candy shell design also adds the premium Ness. So that's all about it.
